Recording with OBS¶
On Linux, obs-vkcapture sends the image directly from FlightGear to OBS, which saves a lot of load compared to window capture.
Setup¶
Install obs-vkcapture following the project’s instructions. In OBS, add Game Capture (Vulkan/OpenGL) as a source. FlightGear is then started through the supplied program, for OpenGL that is obs-gamecapture:
OBS_VKCAPTURE_NAME=flightgear obs-gamecapture "$FG_BASIS/werkzeuge/starten.sh" --aircraft=c172p --airport=EDDP
In OBS you can then assign the source permanently through this name.
For recording¶
--prop:/sim/menubar/visibility=falsehides the menu bar.--prop:/sim/sound/voices/enabled=falseturns off radio and voice sound.--prop:/sim/frame-rate-throttle-hz=60gives a fixed frame rate.On Wayland,
export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcbbefore starting helps.
Warning
For long flights, do a complete test with OBS running first. The extra load can change the timing of a script.
Don’t forget the credits¶
If you show aerial imagery or NASA images in a video, the credits belong in the description.
